it was not a surprise. they were the strongest team on paper. you have the MVP and rookie of the year in your team plus another mythical five member complete with a strong bench. you really should win the championship

La Sallista ako. What really ticked me off was the extremely poor officiating. Case in point was the 2nd technical foul on Maierhoffer. It was completely uncalled for and a typical case of an idiot referee assuming the worst of a player. In fact it was just the worst of a string of bad calls levied on BOTH teams throughout the game! scratch Daming nagulat dun sa call na iyan. Nawalan tuloy ng gana ang La Salle. It spoiled an otherwise classic and beautiful game.

But not to take away anything from Ateneo, they were really the better team last night and deserved to win. Oh well, till next season... Basketball

actually Maierhoffer has one more year left for playing but i think he should already move on to the pros or magpahinog muna siya ng husto sa PBL. he's already a little old. 23 na yata siya.

As for me, I'd like to see him come back next year...but this time bulked up. Sayang ang height at talent niya. Look at Al Hussaini, there was no one on the La Salle side who could match up with him. Height is might but height with bulk is even mightier!!!

Ateneo wins in the juniors division as well! Double celebration ito sa bonfire!
(Too bad the Lady Eagles weren't as strong this year, considering they were the defending champions---triple celebration na sana!)

Buenafe - overaged and ineligible?

Post by el consultant on Mon Sep 29, 2008 8:55 am

FloydSteven wrote:it was not a surprise. they were the strongest team on paper. you have the MVP and rookie of the year in your team plus another mythical five member complete with a strong bench. you really should win the championship

The UAAP should check the documents of Buenafe - my reliable source inside the Ateneo team said his age was changed to make him younger - he is really 23 yrs old already. The age switch was done in Baste and Ateneo didn't bother to correct it but know of the age problem.

This was validated by sportswriters in the south. During the Palaro in Palawan, there protests filed vs. the NCR team for overaged players, Buenafe cited as one of them.

So much for being a "rookie." No wonder he dominated the high school level at NCAA for Baste.
Mandaraya rin pala.

Sad thing is that Ateneo has gotten into this "game" too.

Now what if La Salle dug up the evidence? Ha ha, suspension and championship stripped rin siguro for Arreneo.

Sobrang tanda naman niyang si Buenafe. so you mean he was still in high school at age 22? If that is true then I think he really doesnt deserve to win the ROY award.

Yeps, he was made to become 18 at the time. He is the only reason I didn't want ateneo to win - because buenafe's presence was tantamount to condoning cheating na rin.

Kirk Long and others got benched and this guy gets max playing minutes. This never happened in Ateneo before, rookies always had minimum playing time due to seniority. Ay naku Mad

I think Ateneo would be getting NCAA stalwart Arvy Bringas from the San Sebastian Juniors team for next year. Talk about adding more aces to their already powerful team.

Aces? What if DLSU digs up the goods on these overaged players? Patay ateneo like dlsu the other year. They should keep the same way they developed players - homegrown but good. Sad to say, Ateneo is now relying on importing talent for the sake of the "winning is the only thing" mentality. pathetic.
