yeah i hope so too Wink

from what i've learned from globe after their talks with apple ... steve jobs realized their mistake by not tying up with the telco providers around the world hence, the units were sold in the gray market.

of course now that he realized, he wants to render all the earlier models useless. hence he's coming up with project "brick". once you upgrade the old unit and connect it to your pc, a software is launched to render all the apps useless.

i think you are referring to the "kill switch".

from yahoo regarding Apple iPhone 3g:

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has confirmed that the iPhone 3G has a kill switch that can remotely remove software from the devices.

Jobs told The Wall Street Journal that Apple needs the capability in case it inadvertently allows a malicious program -- such as an application that steals user's personal data -- to be distributed to iPhones through its App Store.

"Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull," Jobs said.

Switch Not Used

Jobs' statement reveals Apple hasn't used the kill switch yet, but the company did remove an application from the App Store last week. Apple removed the $999 "I Am Rich" application, which had the sole purpose of showing people the owner has money. The program creates a red icon that sits on the iPhone deck with a the words "I Am Rich" underneath. After the user activates the application, it glows on the handset like a ruby.

Apple initially approved the application, which bumps up against the pricing limit for applications sold on its App Store. The company was not immediately available for comment on why it decided to pull the plug.

hmmm.. parang i wanna go... am here lang in makati... bounce

A glorified iTouch if you ask me. It's being labeled as a 3G phone and it's not even maximizing the technology. It looks like Apple's just delivering eye candy and not the features some expected it to have. The milk hasn't run dry for Jobs with this wannabe 3g unit.

I think that's their price in the U.S. after you get it postpaid plan.

I don't know what the factors are in Globe's pricing for that iPhone, but highway robbery yang 34 or 40k na presyo dito ng Globe.

Saw this posted at pinoydvd.com:

Saw these in the FAQ's section of their website:

Q: The price is pretty steep, do I have other options?
A: To make it easier on your pocket, you may avail of the 0% Interest Installment Offer.

Q: How much is it? Why is the price like that?
A: The 8GB and 16GB are available under the Prepaid Kit offer. The 8GB retails for P41,899 and the 16GB retails for P48,899. While the price may be steep, the price is a result of increase in dollar exchange rate as well as tax. This is why Globe is giving you P1,000 worth of load for every purchase. Plus, you even get P1,000 discount when you are one of the first 1,000 who avails via reservation!

Burn money, burn! Madami naman mayayaman na kaya mag-spend on such a "blonde" phone like an iPhone 3G. LOL
And Globe must be living in a parallel Earth coz the Dollar to Peso exchange rate is at $1 to PhP45 at best...that 30 to 40k price just doesn't add up. I guess that's te price they have to pay for being the exclusive iPhone distributor in our country. Hah! Hintayin na lang nila na maglabasan sa local markets ang hacked iPhone 3G.

It seems like a dumb price strategy for them to do. It is too steep a price to sell particularly here in the Pinas. I guess they have smart marketing people who figure it out already.
